Stergios Karavatos (Thessaloniki, 1972) is a photographer, independent curator, and photography educator with extensive teaching experience. He studied Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, photography at ESP, and holds an MA in Photographic Studies from Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Between 2002 and 2008, he worked at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography on digitizing the collection, exhibition production, and organizing the annual International Photography Festival Photosynkyria (later known as Photobiennale). Since 2016, he has collaborated with MOMus – Thessaloniki Museum of Photography in organizing and curating numerous exhibitions, primarily as production manager of the main section of the Photobiennale.

From 2013 to 2019, he coordinated the exhibition installation for the Athens Photo Festival of the Hellenic Centre for Photography. He has worked with a wide range of institutions (Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Hellenic Centre for Photography, Monumenta, MA in Heritage Management, Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, Arsis, and the Society for Psychology and Art) in organizing photography workshops for beginners, professionals, and socially vulnerable groups.

His recent photographic work focuses on documenting architectural heritage and exploring the relationship between urban space, natural landscape, and historical memory. He often combines photography with other narrative media such as sound documents, video, and archival material.

Ο Στέργιος Καράβατος (Θεσσαλονίκη, 1972) είναι φωτογράφος, ανεξάρτητος επιμελητής και εκπαιδευτής της φωτογραφίας με πολύπλευρη διδακτική εμπειρία. Σπούδασε Νομικά στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης, φωτογραφία στη σχολή ESP και κατέχει τον τίτλο MΑ in Photographic Studies από το University of Leiden, στην Ολλανδία.
Μεταξύ 2002 και 2008 εργάστηκε στο Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης στην ψηφιοποίηση της συλλογής, στην παραγωγή των εκθέσεων και στην οργάνωση του ετήσιου -τότε- Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Φωτογραφίας, Φωτοσυγκυρία (μετέπειτα Photobiennale). Από το 2016 μέχρι σήμερα έχει συνεργαστεί με το MOMUS- Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης στην οργάνωση και επιμέλεια αρκετών εκθέσεων, κυρίως όμως ως production manager του κεντρικού τμήματος της Photobiennale. Από το 2013 μέχρι το 2019 συντόνιζε την εκθεσιακή εγκατάσταση του Athens Photo Festival του Ελληνικού Κέντρου Φωτογραφίας. Έχει συνεργαστεί με πολλούς φορείς (Μακεδονικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης, Ελληνικό Κέντρο Φωτογραφίας, Monumenta, MA in Heritage Management, Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης, Άρσις, Εταιρία Ψυχολογία και Τέχνη) στην οργάνωση εργαστηρίων φωτογραφίας για αρχάριους, επαγγελματίες και για ευπαθείς κοινωνικές ομάδες.

Στο πρόσφατο φωτογραφικό του έργο ασχολείται με την καταγραφή της αρχιτεκτονικής κληρονομιάς καθώς και με τη σχέση μεταξύ αστικών χώρων, φυσικού τοπίου και ιστορικής μνήμης. Συχνά, συνδυάζει τη φωτογραφία με άλλα αφηγηματικά μέσα, όπως ηχητικά ντοκουμέντα, video και αρχειακό υλικό.

Stefanos Kesidis is a freelance photographer, Deputy Director of esp+ photography school, and co-founder of the nonprofit organization Creative Factor. He studied Mathematics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Master’s degree in “Photography: Research and Methodology” from the University of West Attica, with a thesis titled Photography as Evidence of Environmental Pollution in the Suburban and Urban Zones of Thessaloniki.

Professionally, he works in studio photography, architectural photography, aerial photography, teaching, the digitization and documentation of photographic archives, as well as the photographic documentation of exhibitions. He is an external collaborator with institutions such as the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece.

His research interests focus on contemporary Greek photography and its institutional and curatorial context, archival photography, documentation and archiving practices, and landscape photography.

Ο Στέφανος Κεσίδης είναι freelance φωτογράφος, υποδιευθυντής της σχολής esp+ και συνιδρυτής της ΑμΚΕ Δημιουργικός Παράγων. Έχει σπουδάσει Μαθηματικά στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης και είναι κάτοχος του μεταπτυχιακού «Φωτογραφία: Έρευνα και Μεθοδολογία» από το Πανεπιστήμιο Δυτικής Αττικής, με διπλωματική εργασία με τίτλο Η φωτογραφία ως τεκμήριο της ρύπανσης του περιβάλλοντος στην περιαστική και την αστική ζώνη της Θεσσαλονίκης.

Επαγγελματικά ασχολείται με τη φωτογράφιση στούντιο, την αρχιτεκτονική φωτογραφία, την αεροφωτογραφία, τη διδασκαλία, τη ψηφιοποίηση και τεκμηρίωση φωτογραφικών αρχείων, καθώς και τη φωτογραφική τεκμηρίωση εκθέσεων. Είναι εξωτερικός συνεργάτης φορέων όπως το Μορφωτικό Ίδρυμα Εθνικής Τραπέζης.

Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα επικεντρώνονται στη μελέτη της σύγχρονης ελληνικής φωτογραφίας και των θεσμών και δράσεων που αυτή περιλαμβάνει, στη φωτογραφία αρχείου, την τεκμηρίωση και αρχειοθέτηση, καθώς και στη φωτογραφία τοπίου.

Natassa Markidou holds a PhD from the University of Westminster in the History and Aesthetics of Photography.
Since 1990, she has presented both solo and group exhibitions, and her works are included in museum collections in Greece and abroad.
Since 2018, she has been an Associate Professor and the Academic Director of the MA program Photography: Research and Methodology at the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts, University of West Attica.
In parallel, she is actively involved in curating exhibitions and photographic publications.
Her published books include Constructions and Photography: Critical Readings.

Η Νατάσσα Μαρκίδου είναι διδάκτωρ του Πανεπιστημίου του Westminster σε θέματα Iστορίας και Aισθητικής της Φωτογραφίας.
Από το 1990 έχει στο ενεργητικό της ατομικές και ομαδικές εκθέσεις.  Έργα της συμπεριλαμβάνονται σε συλλογές Μουσείων της Ελλάδας και του εξωτερικού.  Από το 2018 είναι αναπληρώτρια καθηγήτρια  και επιστημονική υπεύθυνη του  Μεταπτυχιακού  Προγράμματος Σπουδών «Φωτογραφία: ‘Ερευνα και Μεθοδολογία» του Τμήματος Φωτογραφίας και Οπτικοακουστικών Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου Δυτικής Αττικής. Παράλληλα ασχολείται με την επιμέλεια εκθέσεων και φωτογραφικών εκδόσεων. Βιβλία της που κυκλοφορούν: «Κατασκευές», «Φωτογραφία: Κριτικές Αναγνώσεις».

He studied photography at the Department of Photography, School of Graphic and Visual Arts, Athens University of Applied Sciences (1991). He holds a Master of Arts in Photography from the Department of Media Arts & Design at the University of Westminster (2000), and earned a PhD in Photography from the same department (2006), with scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece (IKY) and the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
He has been teaching photography in post-secondary education since 1993 and has served as Director of Studies at ESP since 2003. He has presented papers at conferences and symposia on photography. His photographic work has been exhibited, published, and included in academic studies on the medium.

He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (2016–2018), and a member of the advisory committee of the international conference Emerging Landscapes – between production and representation, co-organized by the School of Architecture and the Built Environment and the School of Media, Arts and Design, University of Westminster (2010).

Together with Alexandra Moschovi, he co-curated the exhibition Portraits of History: Voula Papaioannou & Dimitris Harissiadis 1940–1960, featuring works from the Photographic Archives of the Benaki Museum, at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (2017).

Σπούδασε φωτογραφία στο Τμήμα Φωτογραφίας, Σχολής Γραφικών Τεχνών και Καλλιτεχνικών Σπουδών, Τ.Ε.Ι. Αθηνών (1991). Μεταπτυχιακό στην Φωτογραφία του τμήματος Media Arts & Design του Πανεπιστημίου του Westminster (Master of Arts, 2000). Είναι Διδάκτωρ Φωτογραφίας του τμήματος Media Arts & Design του Πανεπιστημίου του Westminster (PhD, 2006) με υποτροφίες του Ι.Κ.Υ. και του Ερευνητικού Συμβουλίου Τεχνών και Ανθρωπιστικών Επιστημών της Βρετανίας. Διδάσκει φωτογραφία από το 1993 στην μεταλυκειακή εκπαίδευση και είναι διευθυντής σπουδών στην ESP από το 2003. Έχει κάνει ανακοινώσεις σε συνέδρια και ημερίδες για την φωτογραφία. Το φωτογραφικό του έργο έχει εκτεθεί, δημοσιευθεί και συμπεριληφθεί σε μελέτες που αφορούν τη φωτογραφία.

Διετέλεσε μέλος της επιστημονικής επιτροπής του Μουσείου Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης (2016-2018) και της συμβουλευτικής επιτροπής του διεθνούς συνεδρίου Emerging Landscapes-between production and representation σε συνδιοργάνωση του School of Architecture and the Built Environment και του School of Media, Arts and Design University of Westminster (2010).

Συνεπιμελήθηκε μαζί με την Αλεξάνδρα Μόσχοβη την έκθεση Πορτραίτα Ιστορίας, Βούλα Παπαϊωάννου Δημήτρης Χαρισιάδης 1940-1960, έργα από τα Φωτογραφικά αρχεία του Μουσείου Μπενάκη στο Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης (2017).
